“Sabbath,” we say, “is a time of reflection where we are not required to produce anything. We may choose to be creative or quiet, in conversation or meditation, moving about the world or very, very still.” Sabbath, which the Solstice Great Pause celebrates, is that moment when we leave work and problem solving behind and find that place deep within where insight lights the way.
Today is the day between reflecting on the past and looking to the future. This year, we are asking ourselves, “Who do I want to be a year from now?” But to answer that question, we must take a moment to know ourselves in this moment, today. This is not how we will always be, nor is it who we’ve always been. Who we are and how we show up in the world is a complicated mix of history (our own personal history and the long and complicated history of humankind) and how we relate to the people around us and how we can/do relate to the things that are happening in this very moment. All this and more influences who we are and how we show up.

Today you are invited to take a little time or a lot and be in the moment. Take stock of where you’ve been, how you’ve come to this place and this time, what and who has brought you here. What brings you love and peace of mind, what agitates you or unsettles you. No need to fix any of that or write it down or do anything with it at all. Just know yourself in all your glorious being.
